Ice cream, reunions and bear hugs

Every two years, a special event takes place at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. Patients who spent their first days in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) are reunited with the nurses and doctors who, in some cases, saved their lives – more than once.

This year, more than 500 former patients,  family members and one bear attended the event, which featured an ice cream social, photos with Beau the Bear, car seat safety instructions, coloring and tattoo stations and raffles.

As with any successful event, it takes a dedicated and passionate team. Special thanks goes out to our NICU staff members, Parenting Program staff and volunteers, OT, PT, SW Departments and our team of neonatologists for their year-long planning to help make this an extra special event for our NICU grads.
