Bingo comes to Beaumont Children’s Hospital

It’s no fun being in the hospital, especially if you’re a kid. But now, Child Life Specialists at Beaumont Children’s Hospital can bring the fun to the rooms of patients who are unable to leave their beds. Using the hospital television system, a remote bingo caller picks the numbers and the children in their rooms play along. If they get a bingo, they use their room phone to call in and claim their prize. A Beaumont volunteer makes the trip to each room and the winners get to choose a prize.

Last week, the children playing bingo were greeted with a celebrity caller – Dr. Don, radio DJ from The Dr. Don Show on WYCD. The Child Life team is putting out the call for future callers, including hospital administrators, Miss Michigan contestants and other local celebrities. The Child Life specialists are hoping to play once a month.

Here is a look at last week’s game with Dr. Don and a few of the bingo winners:

Putting this program together was a great, combined effort by the Beaumont Children’s Hospital staff and team members from Beaumont’s communications and video team.
